Enigma a question which must be resolved.

There is not real punctuation and very simple language.
'Glaucoma' where you eyes go cloudy and you cant see = they slowness pain of losing you eyes sight foreshadowing the man loosing his life, and time in this new world passing slowly.
'stinking robes' - royal, lost, decaying. Or the religious idea of a pilgrimage.

He then goes to to describe his Nightmare:

 - inside a monster 

 - with the hypnotic beauty

 - tolling of the bell, symbolising funeral = foreshadowing the man's death    

 - Alabaster = brilliant white

 - translucent = you can see threw to its bones and organs.

showing the genre of horror, as this monster has appeared as a figment of the imagination of the man.

Second paragraph starts with an enigma, Lots of questions, something is wrong what is it? 

'October' is linked to the idea of Halloween, which is a cultural code, which is a horror theme. 

'if he is not the word of god, god never spoke' - religion , satirical

lack of speech marks = the decaying of the world, we don't understand who is talking.

'Pistol' the idea of danger/ something is wrong, also mean that he has a different job before the apocalypse.

'And' used many time shows the idea of routine, the norm for them.

'Mask' suggest the air isn't clean- gas, smoke.

'papa' boy is young, class is low.

Most of the time you cant tell where the speech starts and end, also the the language is glum, dull and boring nothing to talk about suggesting a long time has passed.

simple conversation.

'mirror behind' suggest danger

'river,motionless' a contradiction 

'river carrying something' burden of dead weeds.

'are you okay?' saying really are you ready to go, not abnormal, routine, everyday the walk long distances.

'Gun metal light' silver, no sun, Gray brooding.

burnt plants, roads, houses.

'odour of gas was only a rumour' faint smell of gas, a lot of time has passed since the apocalypse happened 

'Phone' trying to hold on to what was normal about his old life.

'A metal barrel' his scanning around the room, a normal activity,a different job to most.

'Thespian' old world actor black smeared on his face 

'smoke' looking for people 

enigmas solved: -where ? to the south. why? -warmer
