The start of The Road

This is my child, he said. I wash a dead man's brains out of his hair. That is my job.
Type of genre is horror due to the descriptive language of ‘wash a dead man’s brain out of his hair’
What may have happen is that a man has been shot and his brain have been splattered on to the boy.
Themes show the idea of Death, as the man is dead.
Characters and their relationships, shows the characters of the boy and his father and a man. It suggest the relationship between the boy and the father is one where the father doesn't care a he believes that it is his ‘job’, however there is some care as his states it as a possession.
The way the story might be told in sense that this wasn't a bad way, that this is has had a second though.I
n a very blunt way 'I wash a dead man's brains out of his hair' BLUNT.

Yes I am, he said. I am the one.
Type of genre this doesn't show any genres
what might of happened that he has been asked a question and he is answering
Themes loneliness as the boy says ‘he’s the one’ even though we know he is with his father it shows a lack of attachment as he would have said ‘we’ not ‘I’, religion as it like to the idea of a god as he 'is the one'.
Character and relationship shows the boy believes that he might be better than everyone else as he is still alive
The way the story might be told with simplistic language and grammar suggesting he is young and the way its wrote is confusing suggesting that he wanted to write as if you are the people when this massive event occurred.

Tomatoes, peaches, beans, apricots. Canned hams. Corned beef.
Type of genre, this quote doesn't really show one.
What might of happened, this could be the idea of them listing the food that they have found in a room or a house.
Themes greed as it is the Father listing of things that they have found and in this book people would have been just happy to find one lot of these things but instead they are listing more than anyone would need.
Character and relationships it’s said by the character of the dad,
The way the story might be told in a very childish manner listing very simple and basic showing that the story isn't really about that so it make you block it out.

Are we still the good guys, he said.
Type of genre i can not see one in this
What might have happened, they did something that may have broken some moral codes or something that is wrong.
Themes morals ‘good guys,’
Characters and relationship, showing the boy’s innocence believing that what they may have done before this is bad and not a good thing to do breaking morals.
The way the story might be told it’s in a innocent, not really understanding what is really happening.

We should go, Papa, he said. Yes, the man said. But he didn't.
Type of genre thriller the aspect of suspense because it suggest foreshadowing of something bad by the 'we should go' but they do not leave
What might have happened they return to their old abandoned house where there is the nothingness
Themes
Characters and relationships this suggest the boy is young as he is scared very easily, as for the man it suggest the place is somewhere special to him and he want to be back there before all this problem occurred

The way the story is told with a lack of punctuation showing the worlds knowledge and intelligence decreasing

The snow fell nor did it cease to fall.
Type of genre, I cant see a genre.
What might have happened they found somewhere to hide from the weather.
Themes, Weather showing maybe some pathetic fallacy, that there is a dark sad mood.
Characters and relationships N/A
The way the story is told the lack of punctuation changes the way you read the sentence, as without the punctuation it imitates the snow falling.

Okay? Okay.
Type of genre you can not find one from this quote
What might have happened they were having a conversation
Themes this is to short to find one
Characters and relationships this show that they have a relationship were the boy think that he might be wrong and is questioning what he says. The boy is still young and learning,
The way the story is told that there is no speech marks used.

They sat on the edge of the tub and pulled their shoes on and them he handed the boy the pan and soap and he took the stove and the little bottle of gas and the pistol and wrapped in their blankets and they went back across the yard to the bunker.
Type of genre shows some hints of action as their is a pistol around.
What might have happened they found a place to clean up.
Themes the recurrence of a pistol symbolising hope as this is what he considers to be the way out of a bad situation or their pain and suffering so to the dad this show his hope.
Characters and relationships It shows the Dad/man is afraid of something as he has a pistol.
The way the story is told is very simple, showing that possible the earth has changed for the worse as everything is going back in time not forwards.

Tolling in the silence the minutes of the earth.
Type of genre horror 'tolling in the silence' building tension, its also slightly Gothic as tolling link in with the idea of a funeral and death.
What might have happened that they are not talking and slowly time is passing them by
Themes Death the idea that the bell only tolls out of time at a funeral
Characters and relationships this show the Man believes maybe subconsciously that he is going to die as the tolling links to the idea of death how ever this shows nothing about the boy.
The way the story is told use dark depressive language tolling and silence suggest this.

She was gone and the coldness of it was her final gift.
Type of genre horror as the gift is her death
What might have happened the woman/wife has died and the man is thinking back on it.
Themes the temptation of death as the way out of the apocalypse
Characters and relationships it suggest that the Man has a grudge or hates her as she killed herself and he hasn't forgiven her for it.
The way the story is told the juxtaposition  of her cold and gift show how he want to portray her as not a bad person but almost fed up of the world that she lives in.
